HYDERABAD: These MLAs are different. As today's leaders they want to rise above their peers, not only in terms of knowledge curve and delivery mechanism but also desire to see themselves as the persons who will change India for the better. They are leaders with an open mind who want to imbibe new ways of working and build professional networks with progressive MLAs across various states.
A group of 40 dynamic legislators from 11 states have been invited to a unique four-day India Leadership Workshop, exclusively for MLAs who want to be more effective in their work and rise up to positions of greater influence.

The list of MLAs from Andhra Pradesh who are keen to move up the ladder of excellence in public policy formulation and implementation include deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, K Kannababu, Jayasudha and G Srikanth Reddy.
The workshop, conducted at a premier business school in the city, helped participants garner a unique method of using real-time cases for evolving into effective policy makers. Another important aspect dealt at length was the management of resources like time, people and the media.
A team of distinguished faculty, who have been trained in world-class institutions such as Harvard, IITs and IIMs, were part of this interactive workshop aimed at helping these MLAs to bring about a significant change in the domain of public policy formulation. Some of the distinguished faculty members who could make a difference to the participants included National Advisory Council member and economist A K Shiva Kumar and former CEC I V Subba Rao.
Sharing his experience about the workshop, deputy Speaker N Manohar said it was a refreshing workshop that empowered legislators on policy formulations, apart from giving insight into a host of topics like improving delivery mechanism, key issues concerning leadership in 21st century, role of media as a medium of communication and fruitful bureaucracy-politician interface.
Another participant K Kannababu said, "It was a memorable experience for all of us. We basically were told by subject experts and economists to realise the importance of a policy maker and work towards shaping the future of the state by making policies that work for the people. It was simply inspiring."
The initiative was supported by a non-profit organisation PRS Legislative Research that has a team of professionals dedicated to making legislatures better informed, more transparent and participatory.
